Dating volcanic materials through biochronostratigraphic methods applied to hosting strata (example from the Iberian Chain, eastern Spain)

چکیده
Volcaniclastic accumulations in shallow marine environments are prone to be eroded and transported by sedimentary agents then resedimented either on contemporaneous or younger substrates. Therefore, dating of the volcanic events through sediments containing interbedded layers can lead errors. A case study volcanism southeastern Iberian Range during Early Middle Jurassic is presented. Precise hosting carbonate based ammonite brachiopod biochronostratigraphic method has allowed distinguishing 13 levels different ages ranging from early Pliensbachian Bajocian. set petrological, geomorphological, sedimentological, paleontological criteria applied order discriminate primary secondary (epiclastic) volcaniclastic deposits thus make it possible match with eruptions. Implementation such confirmed that Pliensbachian–early Bajocian interval (ca. 20 Ma) corresponds actual period activity.

The terrestrial situation is somewhat obscured, however, because of the complicating loading effects of oceanic and atmospheric tides, ocean currents, and atmospheric circulation. متن کاملUsing Wind Data to Predict the Risk of Volcanic Eruption: An Example from Damavand Volcano, Iran
Damavand volcano is located 60 km to the East North- East of Tehran. It is a dormant stratovolcano outcrop in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran and is the highest mountain (5670 m) in the Middle East and West Asia. Mazandaran Province, one of the most populous provinces by population density, Semnan and Gorgan provinces further east are neighbours of the Damavand. Volcanism in Damavand goes...
متن کاملIsotopic analysis of mineral phases to unravel the origin of altered volcanic rocks: an example from the Leucite Hills lamproites
Study of lamproites from Leucite Hills, Wyoming, indicates that the isotopic compositions of some specimens have been modified due to the alteration and/or the presence of secondary carbonate impurities within the whole rocks. Leachate test shows that while phlogopite lamproites are not affected by secondary processes, the transitional madupitic lamproites from Middle Table Mountain and on...
متن کاملDistribution and geochemical variations among paleogene volcanic rocks from the north-central Lut block, eastern Iran
The Lut block in eastern Iran is a micro-continental block within the convergent orogen between the Arabian, Eurasian and Indian plates. Large areas of the north-central, eastern, and western Lut block are covered by volcanic rocks of Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary age. Peak volcanic activity took place in the north-central part of the Lut block during the Eocene, and then dramatically decr...
